  Golden Trefoil Award

Purpose

In order to encourage troops to strive to reach high standards of troop program and troop organization, each troop in Hemlock Girl Scout Council that meets specific standards will be designated a Golden Trefoil Troop.

Standards

In order to be designated a Golden Trefoil Troop, the following must be met by the troop during the Girl Scout membership year, October 1 through September 30.

Troop Operation
  • The troop registration is on time (by October 1), including at least five registered girls and two registered adults.
  • At least one adult working directly with the girls, (i.e., leader/assistant leader) attends a council or GSUSA sponsored or endorsed training.
  • Troop program plans were made and carried out through girl planning.
  • Troop must participate in Hemlock Girl Scout Council Cookie or Fall Product Sale and turn in reports and money on time.

Troop Program

During the year, a majority of the troop members helped to plan and participated in the following activities:

  • Investiture and/or Rededication Ceremony.
  • Activity with a troop on a different age level, preferably an older level. For girls who are bridging, this must take place with the next level to demonstrate what lies ahead.
  • A community service project.
  • International awareness activity and contribution to the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund.
  • An inter-troop event sponsored by the service unit, group of service units, area association, district, or council.
  • At least one activity during the summer (June, July, August.)
  • At least two activities from Issues For Girl Scouts.
  • At least two activities that teach pluralism/diversity.
  • A balanced program includes at least one activity from the four program goals (activities in which girls develop their potential, develop values, relate to each other and contribute to society). Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts should refer to the Badge Book/Interest Project Book for the interest areas.

Procedures

The application for the Golden Trefoil Troop Award must be discussed and completed by the troop. It must be signed by both a troop girl member and the troop leader. Forms

The service unit team discusses the application and determines if the troop qualifies for the award. If the troop qualifies, the service unit director signs the application and forwards it to the Girl Scout Office in Harrisburg.

Awards

Each troop qualifying as a Golden Trefoil Troop will receive a letter of congratulations from the chair of Hemlock Girl Scout Council and a special certificate. A Golden Trefoil Patch may be purchased for each troop member and can be worn on the back of the badge sash. For the second and succeeding years in which the girl has been a member of a Golden Trefoil Troop, a small yearly indicator to be placed next to the patch is available for purchase.
