Gold Award
By earning the Gold
Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, a Senior Girl Scout
demonstrates a special commitment to herself, her future, and the community.
It is an honor that a girl keeps for life. Earning this prestigious award
can open up a world of possibilities, and inspire a young woman to be her
absolute best. Nationally, it’s estimated that about 3,000 young women earn
the Gold Award each year.
Gold Award recipients
are honored each year at a special event, where the girls, their families,
and members of the community celebrate this achievement. At this event,
Hemlock Girl Scout Council presents three scholarships to Gold Award
recipients for their higher education. One in the amount of $2,500, and two
in the amount of $1,000 each are presented annually. The scholarships are
renewable for up to three years.
Many colleges and
universities, including the following in Pennsylvania, award scholarships to
Gold Award recipients.

It’s never too early to begin thinking about the Gold Award!
Here are answers to
questions girls may have about this great opportunity.
Who can earn the Gold Award?
Girls registered as Senior Girl Scouts.
When should girls start planning?
Begin as early as possible. Earning the Gold Award starts when girls begin
working on their requirements. Girls should plan to spend more than one year
to complete this step. After completing the requirements, girls can select
and begin working on a Gold Award project. Hemlock Girl Scout Council must
approve the project before work can be started.
How do girls get
started?
Planning ahead is necessary for
achievement. Leaders and consultants can help prepare a proper course of
action for completing the Gold Award requirements. Through Gold Award
advisors (council volunteers), the council supports girls in assuring the
Gold Award project meets the standards and is a sound plan before the girl
and the community.
Are there other awards that younger Girl Scouts can
earn?
Yes. Junior Girl Scouts can earn the Girl Scout Bronze Award and Cadette
Girl Scouts can earn the Girl Scout Silver Award.
